Adelitas Sauces and Stuff

Why the name Adelitas? Well, when you plan to bottle and sell authentic Mexican sauces you want to have an authentic strong Mexican name. After looking around at the hot sauce market we thought it was heavily saturated with hot sauces focused directly on heat and bragging about how hot their sauce is and how much pain it will bring. (Which not throwing any shade; those are good sauces and there is a time and place for that… but not our style). We wanted to truly focus on flavor first and heat second. We wanted to stand apart from the sauces that are so hot it will ruin your day or even worse you well cooked meal. After considering our options we decided to go with Adelitas… a name that reflects strength but also caring… a name that lets you know it means business but with a soft hand. Now you’re probably asking yourself, what is so special about the name Adelitas… the story goes back to the historic Mexican revolution. The Adelitas were the strong, caring and daring women of the Mexican revolution. Adelitas is the archetype of the strong Mexican women Soldier (Soldadera’s), who not only cooked and cared for the wounded but also jumped into battle and fought against the oppressive government. Most of these brave women were indigenous and Mestizas background. Well, the archetype of Adelitas embodies exactly what we aim to achieve… authentic strong sauce that provides a lovable taste but also gives some heat to let you know it can fight back… if it wants… truly befitting of a veteran owned and teacher approved sauce. As we expanded our flavor options we decided to keep with the Mexican revolution. Our next sauce was the Sauce Verda, and thought it best to follow up with arguably the most famous character of the revolution Pancho Via. Then while working on our Salsa Roja reciepe and after multiple failures we made a happy mistake of a very hot but tasty sauce. When taste testing it all we could say was “damn” as it literally took our breath away with chili heat. So we decided to name it “maldita” and ordain the label with Porfirio Diaz, the former 35 yearlong dictator that caused the Mexican people to revolt and was damned to never return to Mexico. We finally were able to achieve the flavor we were looking for in a Sauce Roja that looked very nice next to Pancho via so who else to select for the label then Emiliano Zapata. The leading figure of the revolution and successful general in the state of Morelos. Then last but not least in our original line up is the classic but little-known Matcha (macho). For this label we needed a figure that would reflect its true artisan complexity and be as authentic as it’s flavors and stand up to its strength in heat… so who better meets these requirements then famous and complex artist Frida Kahlo. We hope that through our labels we can inspire people to learn more about the Mexican revolution and more importantly about the color full and complex Mexican culture and history.
